Is RCI really a Timeshare Scam, or just a Misunderstood Company?

RCI Timeshare Services
RCI Timeshare Scams
RCI timeshare scams are very well known throughout the internet review boards, and we have received several complaints against their company as well. Resort Condominiums International is a very well-known and massive timeshare exchange company that is often accused of scams. With nearly 4 million members with affiliates all across the world, it is logical that there would be some unsatisfied customers. However, RCI timeshare scams are some of the most talked about online, so this deserves some serious research.

So, the question becomes: is RCI really running timeshare scams on consumers? If you believe internet consensus, yes. RCI has been the subject of consumer outrage and timeshare scam accusations for many years. Consumers complain that RCI offers outlandish promises, makes fraudulent claims, and tells lies in order to scam customers into using their timeshare exchange service. Many customers believe that they are signing into something wonderful that will produce great results, a service that actually produces some value out of their timeshare. However, once the contract is signed, RCI becomes just another one of many timeshare scams.

One recent review had this to say about RCI timeshare scams:

“They will say yes to all your questions and after you sign and begin to try to use your points, you will realize that it is next to impossible, that the answers to all your questions are lies, and you will have spent thousands of dollars on something that you will never use. Unless you are extremely persistent, and even then you will never be able to use your points to go to Europe in the summer. PERIOD.”

Apparently, the bulk to RCI timeshare scams relate to an inability to actually utilize their service, all the while paying through the teeth for it. Taking money and offering little in return is common for timeshare companies. It seems RCI is engaged in timeshare scams, just like the rest of the industry.

Giving the Consumer the Run-Around Every Day

RCI Timeshare Scam
RCI Timeshare Scam
We have not spoken at length about the RCI timeshare scam in quite some time, so we would like to take the time to bring this fraud to your attention once again. In a recent post, we mentioned the need for more resort reviews, and your input on the RCI timeshare scam is very much appreciated. There have been recent reviews that are scathing and tell a tale of deceit, fraud, and most prevalently, the run-around.

The RCI timeshare scam is not alone in giving the consumer the run-around, in fact this is perhaps the most common tactic of a timeshare resorts. When timeshare owners have an issue or problem with their timeshare contract or vacation venue, they will call the resort, the company that is supposed to help them in their time of need. However, timeshare companies work very hard to make sure your issue is not resolved, or that your own resolve is not strong enough to stay on the phone listening to elevator music for several hours. In recent RCI timeshare scam reviews, it seems as though they make a point to do this with as many customers as possible.

Details Of the RCI Timeshare Scam

The main way the RCI timeshare scam works is by promising to deliver an easy service for exchanging timeshare services between customers. This sounds attractive to timeshare owners, because they would be allowed much greater flexibility with regard to their vacations, but it is the “RCI timeshare scam” for a reason.

In actuality, this service is extremely difficult to use, costing timeshare owners in the long run with massive transaction fees and a very low success rate. Furthermore, RCI underhandedly implies that they can even help you sell your timeshare when nothing is further from the truth. One look at the reviews for the RCI timeshare scam and you will see that this company is one that you should stay as far away from as possible.

Dealing with Timeshare Exchange Programs

The timeshare industry is so massive, and those offering timeshare advice come from a variety of different sources. Some of these sources truly offer great timeshare advice, and many do not. Unfortunately, fraud and deceit have become rampant in the very industry that was created to help timeshare consumers.

Timeshare lawyers, timeshare listing specialists, and timeshare resale agencies all promise great advice for consumers who need to do something about their contract. While many consumers have decided they just need advice for breaking out of their contract, some opt for other solutions that will hopefully derive some value from their timeshares. The most common of these alternatives are timeshare exchange programs.

How Timeshare Exchange Programs Work

Timeshare Exchange Programs
Timeshare exchange programs advise timeshare customers to trade their timeshares between members of their own service. Members are allowed to deposit the week they own and trade with another customer’s week as long as they are a member of the same timeshare exchange program.

However, there are many limitations with the timeshare help and “advice” these programs offer. First of all, another week must be available in order for the customer to receive any help with their timeshare at all. Secondly, these programs only help customers trade an equally rated resort or week for one with lesser value. Finally, these exchanges are often very hard to come by and any timeshare help comes with a hefty price tag and hidden fees.

Most true timeshare advice does not come with the same hidden fees and deceitful tactics used to lure customers into timeshares in the first place. Any exchange comes with a fee, there are hidden deposits for reservations, and massive late fees for failure to pay before certain dates that are often unknown to customers.

The largest timeshare exchange programs are II (Interval International) and RCI (Resort Condominiums International.) Many members view these companies as scam-artists who charge even greater fees than the timeshare resorts themselves. For any real timeshare help, consumers must use every tool at their disposal and learn as much as possible about the contract they are signing. Some companies offer true help, but many are there to trick consumers who are already the victims of fraudulent tactics and hidden fees.

Exchange Programs Considered A Top Reason Why Timeshares Are Horrible Investments

The RCI timeshare scam is one of the largest industry, and works in a unique way. We have already discussed the RCI timeshare scam, and the many outraged customers who submit claims of fraud every day. RCI is a timeshare exchange program, not a resale agency, and they work by allowing members to exchange timeshares between members.

The RCI timeshare program is simple and works in a big way. RCI knows that customers don’t want to vacation in the same location every single year, and make a massive profit on this fact. The RCI timeshare scam works by getting their profit from the annual membership fee, an exchange fee for any successful trade, and hidden deadlines. Customers complain that these exchanges are rare, and the RCI timeshare program works mainly by the lack of availability while collecting the annual fee.

Other Issues With the RCI Timeshare Scam

RCI Timeshare Scam
While doing research on the RCI timeshare program, the hidden fees and profit system made absolute sense. It was easy to see why this part of the scam worked. However, one review made me realize a whole other side affecting customers.

A huge part of the RCI timeshare scam is that their fees stay the same or increase over time while the value of your timeshare decreases. Customers may be able to make a successful trade while the timeshare is new and beautiful, but the longer the ownership, the less value is attributed to your timeshare, and the less likely you will be able to make any reasonable exchange. You are stuck paying maintenance fees and annual fees while the value is sucked out of your piece of the exchange.

Have you been the victim of the RCI timeshare scam? Please post about your experiences, and warn others not to get swindled!

Why the RCI timeshare program has caused great consumer backlash

Scams within the timeshare industry run rampant, and RCI has become the latest focus of a large group of angry consumers. One of the most common complaints received are not about a specific timeshare resort at all, but rather the RCI timeshare exchange program.

This latest movement has consumers up in arms against what they call the RCI timeshare scam. Customers must pay an annual fee, but are also charged bloated hidden fees and ridiculous exchange rates for any amount of “decent” service from RCI. The perfect paradigm for the entire timeshare industry, RCI apparently sells a scam to customers with deceitful tactics and misleading information. RCI is preying on a group of people who are already weak from their current  timeshare scams.

Understanding the RCI Timeshare scam

Picture
RCI Timeshare Scam
RCI boasts “3.7 million members worldwide and over 4,000 affiliated resorts in countries around the world.” The key to the RCI timeshare scam is in numbers, which fools unsuspecting consumers into believing that a large number of subscribers and resorts equals quality service. In reality, the RCI timeshare scam is well documented and has a very bad reputation within the timeshare community.

The basic premise behind the RCI timeshare exchange service is, by paying an annual membership fee, consumers can trade their timeshare to other members with other timeshare resorts around the world. The RCI timeshare program sounds like a low-risk opportunity to make some use out of a likely unwanted timeshare.

However, members soon learn that the fraudulent tactics of timeshare companies are present in the RCI timeshare scam as well. Customers are locked into RCI and forced to pay large hidden fees, just like their timeshare contract. Massive deposits have to be put down for exchanges, unbeknown to customers until it is too late. Immense fees are also tacked on for each exchange, especially for heavily sought weeks and locations.

The most frustrating aspect of the RCI timeshare scam seems to be customer “service.” Many consumers complain about the difficulty of reaching anyone in RCI capable of meeting basic needs. Consumers are given the run-around in RCI until more fees are tacked on and are forced on customers. Rude agents, unanswered calls, and nonexistent responsiveness have frustrated many consumers into finding legal help with ending the RCI timeshare scam. We are here to be your voice, so please comment or submit a complaint about your experience with the RCI timeshare scam.
