Is RCI really a Timeshare Scam, or just a Misunderstood Company?

RCI Timeshare Scams
RCI timeshare scams are very well known throughout the internet review boards, and we have received several complaints against their company as well. Resort Condominiums International is a very well-known and massive timeshare exchange company that is often accused of scams. With nearly 4 million members with affiliates all across the world, it is logical that there would be some unsatisfied customers. However, RCI timeshare scams are some of the most talked about online, so this deserves some serious research.

So, the question becomes: is RCI really running timeshare scams on consumers? If you believe internet consensus, yes. RCI has been the subject of consumer outrage and timeshare scam accusations for many years. Consumers complain that RCI offers outlandish promises, makes fraudulent claims, and tells lies in order to scam customers into using their timeshare exchange service. Many customers believe that they are signing into something wonderful that will produce great results, a service that actually produces some value out of their timeshare. However, once the contract is signed, RCI becomes just another one of many timeshare scams.

One recent review had this to say about RCI timeshare scams:

“They will say yes to all your questions and after you sign and begin to try to use your points, you will realize that it is next to impossible, that the answers to all your questions are lies, and you will have spent thousands of dollars on something that you will never use. Unless you are extremely persistent, and even then you will never be able to use your points to go to Europe in the summer. PERIOD.”

Apparently, the bulk to RCI timeshare scams relate to an inability to actually utilize their service, all the while paying through the teeth for it. Taking money and offering little in return is common for timeshare companies. It seems RCI is engaged in timeshare scams, just like the rest of the industry.

Turn Dirty Tricks Against Timeshare Companies

As a timeshare owner, it is very likely that you have been the victim of timeshare misrepresentation. Fraud is replete throughout the timeshare industry, but the bulk of this misrepresentation occurs at the timeshare presentation.

Timeshare contracts are most often signed over false pretense and outright lies. Timeshare presentations can be nasty experiences where attendees are subject to hours of half-truths, fast sales pitches, and immense pressure from salesmen. Consumers are often caught off-guard and are easily mislead through misrepresentation.

Attendees are told that timeshares are wonderful investments that can pay huge dividends. Salesmen speak of the ease of ownership and how timeshares offer great flexibility for dream vacations. This is utter misrepresentation, perpetrated by timeshare companies who should be held responsible for their deceitful claims.

Use this Misrepresentation when Breaking the Contract

While timeshare companies use misrepresentation to coerce consumers to purchase timeshares, owners can use this to their advantage when getting out of a timeshare. It is a very good idea to document, in detail, all the forms of timeshare misrepresentation experienced at the timeshare presentation. These lies constitute fraud and are a great way to build leverage against timeshare companies.

Timeshare companies do not let owners break contracts easily, but timeshare misrepresentation is a just cause for breaking a contract, and timeshare companies know this. It is essential to use all of the weapons at your disposal when getting out of a timeshare, and misrepresentation is one of the most powerful.

Timeshare Misrepresentation: The Timeshare Presentation

The place where the timeshare industry truly displays fraudulent tactics and misrepresentation is the timeshare presentation. Timeshare resorts and contracts probably wouldn’t have such a negative reputation if these meetings actually told the truth to consumers. There are several ways in which timeshares are misrepresented in these presentations.

The most common complaint we receive from consumers are due to the timeshare misrepresentation which runs rampant at these meetings. If you are going to attend a timeshare sales presentation, it is a great idea to be prepared for this misrepresentation beforehand. People usually attend these meeting under the guise of giving up a small fraction of their time for a nice gift or prize. About the only thing not misrepresented is this final gift the consumer will receive (although sometimes even that is.)

1) The length of the timeshare presentation

The timeshare misrepresentation begins even before the meeting occurs. Often, the time of these presentations run much longer than advertised. A 90 minute advertised meeting can easily run multiple hours. The purpose is to exhaust consumers into blindly signing the misrepresented timeshare contract after the lengthy presentation.

2) Timeshare as an investment

One of the most obvious cases of timeshare misrepresentation is when salesmen try to convince consumers of the great investment opportunity. These claims are at the very least very overstated. Timeshares include fixed payments, high annual costs, and unreasonable hidden fees.

3) The Timeshare contract

The timeshare contract is also extremely misrepresented. So misrepresented, in fact, that many consumers blindly sign it after being worn down for so long at the timeshare meeting. Timeshare contracts are binding and inflexible, and ensure that you will not be able to break them easily. The contract also allows the timeshare company to take legal action against you if you cannot pay.

What kind of timeshare misrepresentation have you experienced when attending these sales presentations?
