
In 1994, Bluegreen Resorts developed its first timeshare resort in the Great Smoky Mountains followed by resorts in Myrtle Beach and Florida. Bluegreen added additional resorts in Florida and Wisconsin, as well as management contracts with other resorts in the southeast through acquisitions, ultimately becoming one of the largest timeshare resort property managers in the United States.
Continued growth led them to start marketing vacation ownership under the Bluegreen Vacation Club name. Throughout the years Bluegreen has established various alliances that have increased exposure of their vacation packages. As they continue to expand, Bluegreen recently added resort destinations in Las Vegas, Williamsburg, Phoenix, Atlantic City, New Orleans, the Bahamas and Cape Cod.
Due to numerous complaints of unethical business practices the state of Pennsylvania filed a class action lawsuit against Bluegreen Corporation. In 2010, litigation was successfully resolved.
