Bluegreen Resorts

In 1994, Bluegreen Resorts developed its first timeshare resort in the Great Smoky Mountains followed by resorts in Myrtle Beach and Florida. Bluegreen added additional resorts in Florida and Wisconsin, as well as management contracts with other resorts in the southeast through acquisitions, ultimately becoming one of the largest timeshare resort property managers in the United States.

Continued growth led them to start marketing vacation ownership under the Bluegreen Vacation Club name. Throughout the years Bluegreen has established various alliances that have increased exposure of their vacation packages. As they continue to expand, Bluegreen recently added resort destinations in Las Vegas, Williamsburg, Phoenix, Atlantic City, New Orleans, the Bahamas and Cape Cod.

Due to numerous complaints of unethical business practices the state of Pennsylvania filed a class action lawsuit against Bluegreen Corporation. In 2010, litigation was successfully resolved.

My husband an I purchased a timeshare from blue green late last summer and has been a nightmare ever since. We went to the presentation and had our small son with us. They would not even let my husband attend the presentation. He had to stay in the play room with my son. After the presentation we were reunited to take a tour with our sales person. My son needed a diaper change so I told the salesperson I needed to go yo the car to change him before the tour. He said I wasn't allowed to do that unless he went with us! After the tour we were told one lie after another. I was considering if we could afford the payment and our sales person told me we could sell the extra vacations on eBay and profit not only enough for the monthly payments but also the maintinece fees and membership fees. We were told a one bedroom condo was 200 points per night so our 6,000 biannual points would be more than enough. The extra vacations were through RCI and they gave us a book a couple inches think. They told us any place in that book (worldwide) would only cost us $249 for an entire week. Those were the ones we could sell and make profit. We were also told there were 3000 point week stays at Disney and special last call vacations for $99. One example of the last call vacations was the smokies of the wilderness indoor water park resort. We were told a week and eight water park passes were $99 but they only offered that deal a couple times a year. All this sounded too good to be true so my husband and I both questioned this several times and always got the same answer that the info they said was correct. But we could not leave and think about it, we had to make a decision before we left the resort. Once we left the offer was over and could not come back to get the offer. Our name went on a list and we could not even go to another resort presentation for 18months. They said we couldn't roll over or save up points BC that would be unfair and some people would save up millions of points and get all the good deals. They want everyone to have the same shot at getting the good deals. We were told we could come back for a free weekend back as a new owners orientation where we would have a personal representative that would take us through every aspect of our wonderful purchase and how to get the most from our timeshare. However we were told it had to be at least a month away in order for all the paperwork and such to be processed. We picked the first available weekend after the required waiting period. We were at the resort for hours and hours. We were so physically and emotionally drained and ready to leave. Our son was tired, frustrated and throwing a fit to leave. So much so my husband took him back to the play room and we were even seperated at closing. Neither of us was told anything about a cooling off period that we could cancel the contract if we changed our minds. We would not learn the truth until a month later when we went for our new owners orientation. This was supposed to be a one on one meeting with our representative; a very nice girl we met for 30 seconds the day of purchase to schedule this weekend. When we arrived it was a crowded room like the day of purchase. The nice girl we met that was supposed to be our personal representative was no where to be seen. Our son was with us again and doesn't do well in crowds so it wasn't pleasant from the start. We sat at a table in a loud conference room pack full of other suckers. We told the lady we never met before what we were told and she looked at us like we had six heads. She informed us that none of that was true. Then for twenty minutes, supposedly while they were trying to find our new owner certificate that they never did find, the woman just sat there. She had no clue what to say or do BC we had been lied to so much. Finally a manager guy came over and had the nerve to try to sell us more points! By this point my son was restless, my husband was angry and I was fighting back tears. After leaving the info session I immediately emailed the girl we were told we would be meeting with and expressed what a terrible experience we had and that we had been lied to and wanted out. A person or two finally called me but really didn't have much to say. Supposedly a big wig guy called me with still not much to say other than I got a good deal and I just needed to learn how to use it. I asked him if we could just give it back and forget this nightmare ever happened. Of course he said we couldn't do that. We were lied to, pressured into buying, held captive until we were pushed into a snap decision, not given all the information or told about a cooling off/ change your mind period. If we had known the truth we would have never purchased a timeshare or if we had been able to find out the truth during the cooling off period we would have canceled within that time and wouldn't be stuck with this nightmare. But of course they planned the owner orientation way past that period so there w

I don't for a MINUTE believe that the husband was not allowed into the presentation. They REQUIRE both parties to be there!

There are so many blatant falsehoods I don't know where to begin.

When you buy points there is a tape recording made where you verbally agree to what is said !

Carla, it's unlikely that you'll be able to get what you want for your timeshare. The better idea would be to learn how to enjoy what you have. I wish my husband had more vacation time, since I'm a retired teacher and can only sub 100 days a year. Email me at scarlettt1@hotmail.com if you want some suggestions.

Bluegreen are liars they give false information; they do require both parties, even if your just cohabiting! I have paid so much for what I purchased, haven't been able to use once and its been a year! I am going to hire a lawyer and willing to go public on all the lies they use as selling tactics.

No brainwashing required, Lisa. I'm in touch daily with 400 people, in a group who love their Bluegreen. We get together at resorts, sometimes as many as 50 of us, just as we are do yearly at Boyne in May, Christmas Mountain in June, and Big Cedar in July. We all love our Bluegreen and the wonderful friendships we've made that will last a lifetime.

Despite the fact that you don't believe various bits and pieces of kellyb's post above does not make any of it any less true. Our experience with BG has been a disaster since the start. The saleslady flat out lied on several critical points. For example, knowing we had a big interest in offshore fishing off the west coast, she told us "beginning in July of this year, we will have full fishing charters out of San Diego through the Traveler's Club". Fact: that year was 2014 and as of April 2016, there still exists no such charter in SD or anywhere on the west coast. She told us the annual maintenance fees are "easliy" covered by the rewards points on the BG card that would be issued. Once we got the card, we realized she lied again--even with just a 1 bdrm unti, you'd have to spend over $79,000 a year on the CC to accrue enough points to cover the maintenance fees. The biggest whopper she told that day was: "The Traveler's Club gets you at least 50% off of airfare--me and my husband fly everywhere and ALWAYS get 2 for the price of 1"...Fact: Not once in 2 years has a travel discount through the Traveler's Club ever exceeded 2%. BG reps will lie through their teeth to sell you nothing but garbage, plain and simple! They have absolutely no accountability. After multiple complaints, we were told that they fired that particular salesperson due to her sales tactics (which "do not represent the morals of the company"). On a return visit to Vegas we found that was also a lie--this time from management--as she was still working at the same desk as the year before. I AM NOT ADVISING PEOPLE TO BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT BLUEGREEN--I AM ADVISING YOU TO STEER CLEAR ALTOGETHER!!!! For that matter, stay away from timeshares period! There are many very easy to use vacation websites that will allow you to take awesome vacations for far less money than what these crooks charge! Check out a few sites and do the simple math--these people would not be selling timeshares if they didn't make a killing with each sale. With BG, in particular, you'll find the sales team eerily resembles slimy used car salesmen...

I have experience with getting people out of their contracts. Also, I don't mind answering questions on how most major timeshare companies work. It's sad what the resale value of timeshares are. You can buy them for $1 on eBay. Consumers get lied to by these big companies that they will buy them back etc...what a joke

Hi How can we all get together and get rid of this nightmare? We can't afford it even though they said we could. It is killing us I am ready to claim bankrupcy just to get rid of it :(

Donna G, we just stopped paying the fees and the monthly mortgage. We were lied to about what was included in the Outdoor Traveler package offered by BG (this all started when we visited a Bass Pro Shop that has a BG kiosk--I am documenting everything to send to BP management so they are aware of the scams being perpetrated through their stores). After well over 2 years of fighting with BG to honor their end of what we were promised, we were well within our right to stop paying them. We didn't violate the contract--they did. So, we stopped paying. We checked into the places that claim they can get you out, but all were just as bad as dealing with BG, They want several thousand dollars for their services and there are no guarantees. Also, this process could take 2 or more years and you are advised to continue paying BG during that time. If you research the complaints, you'll find that even after getting out of their contracts through such services, folks are still having their credit reports trashed as a result. So, as I've noted, we just stopped paying BG anything. Within weeks, they started calling several times a week (very interesting given that for 2+ years I was calling them several times a week and only got 2 return calls that entire time). I answered the first few calls and told them exactly why I stopped paying. Then, one of their collectors violated federal law with regard to collection attempts by cussing me out on the call. I stopped answering altogether. The final result was them reporting late payments to the credit bureaus, foreclosing on the timeshare and cancelling the membership. Then, we contacted a credit repair place and within 3 months our reports at all 3 credit bureaus were cleaned up for less than $500. We are out several thousand dollars for a couple years of payments and maintenance, but have been discussing this with an attorney and state and local government officials to push for legislation change regarding timeshares. Anyway, if I were you, I would investigate the option we took with respect to your state's laws. There are several states were BG has no recourse but to simply foreclose--these states don't allow them to garnish wages, etc. If BG ownership is so wonderful and valuable, they should be more than happy to have you forfeit what you've already paid and have their timeshare available to resell--the truth is, it's neither wonderful or valuable. Check your state laws. If all you have to suffer is a bad credit report in 6 months, it's easily repairable and costs much less than these scamming services that are just as bad as BG.

This presentation was held in Las Vegas ? Do not tar every salesperson with the brush - "With BG, in particular, you'll find the sales team eerily resembles slimy used car salesmen" " BG reps will lie through their teeth to sell you nothing but garbage, plain and simple! They have absolutely no accountability.".. . We have gone to 27 resorts, and while we have had a few bad experiences, with questionable honesty from some staff, we have been happy with our Bluegreen purchase since 2006. We could not have stayed on property at Disneyworld for a week, had we not been able to use our points - which cost us $400 in maintenance fees.. 5 cents per point of 8,000 points..Nor could my son have stayed in a 2 bedroom there, for $550 at 5 cents per point for his 11,000 points.

Yes, Troll, this was at the LV site. I'll start by telling you: do NOT tell me how to respond with regard to the sales tactics utilized by the sales force of the company for whom you troll. These people take the job of their own accord and willingly employ methods lacking in all ethics! They do it of their own free will with all lack of integrity--this more than justifies the 'slimey' moniker. This was further exemplified with our visit earlier this year under a different name. We asked the exact same questions as in 2014 to a different salesperson. If the lies told "do not represent the company's morals...", then why did we get the same answers? Once again, we were told about "reduced airfares of 50% or more" and "west coast fishing charters starting this year...and very convenient for you because they'll be out of San Diego". This guy also told us the rewards he got on his BG credit card covered his annual maintenance fees. This time, I inquired as to what those fees were. He told us he had purchased a 1 bdrm unit like we were interested in and "loved it so much he just had to take a job with the company"--same line of crap spewn by the lady 2 years earlier almost verbatim (one can only assume it was scripted by management). Anyway, he claimed his maintenance was "a few hundred a year" (another lie given that the annual fees on a 1 bdrm are $789). I played along with the "few hundred" and noted that most CC's rewards are only 1% and that would require spending at least $30,000 a year on his card to have his fees "completely covered". That provoked a few seconds of blank stare as he scrambled for his next lie..."yeah, yeah, I charge like twice that every year...". Yes, we endured the slimeball sales routine yet a second time at the same facility; however, this time we did not buy. What we did do was capture every slimey detail on video. We have a meeting scheduled with a local news station's investigative reporter in hopes of getting this aired to warn as many people as possible. We have written responses to our complaints in 2014 that claim "these things don't happen at BG"...the video proves otherwise. I ASK ANY AND ALL ON THIS SITE TO PLEASE STAY TUNED AND INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT WE WILL BE POSTING THIS VIDEO FOR ALL TO SEE AND USE AS NEEDED TO SUPPORT THEIR CASES AGAINST BG. This same message is being posted on every blog and complaint site we can find--we want as much publicity on this as we can possibly get--I want it on a NATIONAL investigative news show, if possible. This company with its unethical practices needs to be shut down!

Why do you only pay $400 in Maintenance fees when I have to pay $536 for the same 8,000 points??????????????????

Well, the fees in 2017 took a big jump--over $800. We've tried everything to get BG to make good on their promises and they either outright refuse or ignore us altogether (for 3 years now). Even with recording of their "promises" to make a sale (promises that you will find listed nowhere in the contract--BUYER BEWARE), they refuse to try and make things right. I noticed a post up above for "willing to help". We have talked with several companies and law firms regarding getting out of timeshare contracts and they're really no better than BG themselves. Basically, you will pay $5000+ and your credit will be destroyed unless you keep paying BG during the 2-3 years it takes these "experts" to get you out. Honestly, you're better off to just stop paying BG. This is what we are doing: we are refusing to pay this year's maintenance and have stopped the monthly mortgage payments. They have already taken over $8000 of our money--if what they sold us has any real value, then they should be happy to take it back and keep $8K+ on top; in reality, they know it's worth absolutely nothing, so they've already started the very, very nasty and threatening phone calls (the guy that's called 6 times in the last 3 weeks has cussed me out for stating that I'm no longer paying--BG customer service at its finest--sounds more like Guido the mafia collector). It's far more cost effective to just stop paying and let them hit my credit report--when they're done, it's far less cost to have a credit repair company clean up the reports for less than $1K.
