Westgate Resorts is both a timeshare company and a real estate company. Dating back to the early 1970s, Westgate Resorts has grown into the largest privately held timeshare company in the world.

Westgate encompasses 28 resorts throughout the United States. The company provides vacation accommodations as well as offering worldwide travel exchange through its affiliation with Interval International and International Cruise and Excursions.

Westgate Resorts has dealt with several major legal issues of late. In 2008, a former employee sued the CEO and founder of Westgate for sexual harassment. Back in 2009, the Federal Trade Commission filed a lengthy complaint against them for violations of the national "do not call list" along with other illegal marketing practices. In 2010, Westgate was sued for failing to pay workers overtime and their owed commissions.

Additionally, a group of Westgate Resort owners have been complaining about the rising maintenance fees, collection practices, and unpaid referral fees. A potential class action lawsuits to protect the interest of the owners may be on the horizon.
